Georgetown, Guyana - No.71 and No.48 Challengers became the final two teams to advance to the last-16 playoffs of the 2013 New Building Society Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition when they both won their last preliminary matches in their respective zones to end up as winners of those zones.

In Zone O (Upper Corentyne-Central), after Springlands made 160 against No.71, opening batsman Soomdat Singh slammed 111 not out to guide No.71 to an easy 8-wicket win with 16 overs to spare in their 35-overs-a-side match. His knock included 11 fours and 9 sixes and it was his second century of the competition.

After No.48 Challengers had scored 168 all-out in their allotted 25 overs against No.45, medium pacer Balram Persaud took 5 for 21 from 3.5 overs to bowl No.48 to a 88-run victory.

Lakeram Latchman firstly took 3 for 15 and then scored 78 not out (11 fours and 4 sixes) to spearhead No. 73 Young Warriors to a 10-wicket win over Progressive Youth of Crabwood Creek.

Jermain Reid hit 53 not out and Rabindra Singh 53 to lead Corriverton to a huge 291 for 8 in 30 overs against Progressive Youth, who were then bowled out for 80 in reply, with off spinner Eric Phillips taking 5 for 10 from 5.1 overs.

Corriverton registered a second consecutive victory when Reid, who is a specialist pacer, took 6 for 27 from 7 overs to help bowl out No.70 Young Star for 91. They went on to win by 8 wickets.

Also scoring half centuries were Krishna Kalika of Albion Travellers, Rohan Kalika of Belvedere United as well as Michael Kendall and Colin France, both of No. 52 Survival, while Arjun Narinesammy had a 5-wicket haul for Rose Hall Town Guns and Cannons.

At No. 48, No. 48 Challengers beat No. 45 by 88 runs. No. 48 Challengers 169 in 25 overs with Parmeshwar Badrinarine 37, Deewan Singh 30, Monesh Lalu 29, Arjune Parath 3 for 38 and Changoor Persaud 3 for 43. No. 45 81 in 14.5 overs with Balram Persaud 5 for 21.

At No. 73, No. 73 Young Warriors beat Progressive Youth by 10 wickets. Progressive Youth 126 in 28.4 overs with Kadeem Bacchus 28, Gobin Roopram 4 for 14, Lakeram Latchman 3 for 15 and Nethram Roopram 3 for 19. No. 73 Young Warriors 130 without loss in 10.2 overs with Lakeram Latchman 78 not out and Denesh Nethram 32 not out.

At No. 73, Corriverton beat Progressive Youth by 211 runs. Corriverton 292 for 8 in 30 overs with Jermain Reid 53 not out, Rabindra Singh 53, Anthony Seeraj 45, Amzad Appalsammy 37, Fiaz Haniff 3 for 43. Progressive Youth 80 in 17.1 overs with Eric Phillips 5 for 10 and Amzad Appalsammy 3 for 18.

No. 70, Corriverton beat No. 70 Young Star by 8 by 8 wickets. No. 70 Young Star 91 in 25 overs with Alim Haniff 46 not out, Jermain Reid 6 for 27 and Clavern Beresford 2 for 17. Corriverton 92 for 2 in 16.3 overs with Clavern Beresford 44 not out and Omesh Kumar 2 for 20.

At Tain, Albion Travellers beat Belvedere United by 106 runs. Albion Travellers 256 for 7 in 35 overs with Krishna Kalika 70 not out, Brian Algu 47, Subramani Mangali 30, Nirvan Matadin 27 and Rohan Kalika 2 for 43. Belvedere United 150 in 33 overs with Rohan Kalika 60, Ritesh Harrinarine 4 for 18, Satesh Hiralall 3 for 31 and Chemendra Goberdhan 2 for 26.

At No. 52, No. 52 Survival beat No. 59 by 97 runs. No. 52 Survival 212 for 4 in 20 overs with Colin France 50, Michael Kendall 50, Marvin Harvey 41 and Wayne Garnett 34. No. 59 115 for 8 in 20 overs with Wayne Garnett 3 for 19 and Marvin Harvey 2 for 31.

At Hampshire, Tamarind Root beat Rose Hall Town Guns and Cannons by 19 runs. Tamarind Root 129 in 29 overs with Asif Ibrahim 28, Alvin Ramdass 25 and Arjun Narinesammy 5 for 24. Rose Hall Town Guns and Cannons 110 in 28.4 overs with Dilip Rangasammy 2 for 19 and Michael Ramdihal 2 for 24.

At Rose Hall Town, Fyrish Road beat Belvedere United by 67 runs. Fyrish Road 170 in 33.5 overs with Joseph Kamaludin 40, Isaac Kamaludin 35 and Rohan Kalika 2 for 11. Belvedere United 103, Zamin Hamid 3 for 13, Hassan Hussain 3 for 23 and Shameer Ahmad 2 for 11.
