Georgetown, Guyana - Young Warriors Universal DVD are through to the final of 2013 Berbice Bridge 50-Over Knock-out Cricket Competition in Berbice after they defied the odds to defeat Port Mourant Karibee rice by 1 wicket in their semi-final on Sunday.
In the match which as played at the Cumberland ground, Port Mourant Karibee Rice won the toss, took first strike and found themselves struggling at 22 for 2 in the 10th over with Berbice Under-17 pacer Kassim Khan picking up all two wickets.
However Andrew Lyte Jnr of DCC, representing Port Mourant in this competition, joined Joshua Ramsammy and together they added 111 runs in 20 Overs before Ramsammy went for 43. Lyte continued and eventually fell to offspinner Kevin Ramdeen for 78 made in52 balls, with four fours and four sixes.
After he departed, the lower order led by Manoj Looknauth with 35 and Yudendra Harrinarine and Gregory Crandon with 17 each saw Port Mourant to 244 all out in exactly 50 Overs. Bowling for Young Warriors, Kassim Khan took 3 for 38, left arm spinner Karamchand Ramnarine 2 for 41, offspinner Hubern Evans 2 for 42 and Kevin Ramdeen 2 for 50.
With the odds in favour of Port Mourant, Young Warriors Universal DVD started their response with Guyana Under-19 batsman Shimron Hetmyer and Khemraj Sumair opening the batting. Sumair had to retire hurt with the score on 20 in the 3rd over. Hetmyer was joined by his brother Seon and they took the score to 63 in the 10th over at which point Seon fell for 12. Kevin Ramdeen came in and he and Hetmyer put on 24 runs in the next 3 overs before the latter went for 42 off 24 balls.
After Sumair came back in and was bowled very quickly, Ramdeen continued, putting on 47 for the 4th wicket in 8 overs with Lindon Austin 23 and 39 in 8 overs for the 5th wicket with Ishwar Singh before Ramdeen went via the run out route for 66 made off 50 balls and which included 4 fours and 4 sixes.
Singh went on to make 42, but Young Warriors still slipped to 208 for 7 and 228 for 9 still needing 17 in 5 overs. Hubern Evans (7 N.O) and Kassim Khan (15 N.O) however saw them safely through to 249 for 9 in 48.4 overs.
Bowling for Port Karibee Rice offspinner Devendra Thakurdeen took 2 for 34 from 10 overs, pacer Yudendra Harrinarine 2 for 45 from 10 overs and offspinner Manoj Looknauth 2 for 49 from 10.
Young Warriors Universal DVD will therefore clash the winner of the other semi-finalist Albion Community Centre in the final fixed for Sunday at the Cumberland ground.
