The always ebullient all rounder is a leading force in the Windward Island cricket team. Sammy is a batting all rounder whose medium pace has been noticeably increasing in miles per hour each year. As a batsman Sammy is a clean hitter who is not afraid to cut loose but can also play the role of doughty fighter when the occasion arises. He has been consistently turning in note worthy performances on the regional scene and is a fixture in the West Indies A Team. Having made the West Indies tour to England in 2004, Sammy lost his spot but after being selected for a short tour to India in early 2007 he had to pull out due to injury. He finally made his Test debut during the third Test against England at Old Trafford in 2007. He took 7-66, the best debut performance by a West Indian in many years. He hurt his hamstring and was left out of the fourth and final Test. A hard and unrelenting worker, Sammy is not just a fine fielder but has the ability to pull out inspirational and morale boosting catches. |
