Zimbabwe start tour with challenge from UWI Vice Chancellorメs XI
26/02/10
Official tour match
Venue: Sir Frank Worrell Ground, Trinidad
Start: 9:30 am on Friday, February 26 (8:30 am Jamaica Time)
Zimbabwe will bowl off their tour of the West Indies on Friday when they face University of the West Indies Vice Chancellor’s XI in a 50-overs match at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Grounds. The visitors will use the match as preparation for their upcoming Digicel Series against the West Indies.
The match will also honour the contribution of former Trinidad and Tobago captain and West Indies batsman Larry Gomes to the game of cricket in the twin island republic as well as across the region. A brief presentation will be made to Gomes before the match.
Both teams are eagerly looking forward to the match. The Vice Chancellor’s XI includes four members of the West Indies Under-19 team which placed third in the ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand in January. These are opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite, wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich, fast bowler Jason Holder and Yannic Cariah, the left-handed batting allrounder.
“It’s a practice match and we want to go out there, hit the ground running and get a win. This game is important for us in getting rid of some of the cobwebs after the long flight and get some cricket in. A number of the new players will get a look in, so you can look forward to seeing the likes of Charles Coventry, Kyle Jarvis, Greg Lamb, Timycen Maruma and Shingirai Masakadza,” said Dave Houghton, the team consultant.
