Foreword by the President of the WICB, The Honourable Dr. Julian R. Hunte
On Saturday, February 23, 2008 the Board of Directors of the West Indies Cricket Board, together with senior officials of the six Territorial Boards, held a special session to review the recommendations of the Governance Committee of the Board.
The review was the culmination of an internal process which started in late October 2007 when the Committee presented its Report to the Board. At that time it was agreed that the Territorial Boards would discuss the Report and their views, recommendations and concerns would be addressed at a Special Meeting of the Board.
The review process identified that many of the recommendations of the Committee were already being implemented and that most of the others were already incorporated into the Board's Draft Strategic Plan. This too was presented at the Board Meeting on February 23, 2008 and was approved in principle.
A Board Document, which provides an update on the status of the implementation of the Committee's recommendations is now available on this website for the information of all our stakeholders. The link between the Report and the Draft Plan, which is also on the site for public comment, is our common desire, and determination, to see West Indies Cricket regain its rightful place at the pinnacle of world cricket.
The Draft Strategic Plan is intended to elucidate and operationalise our vision of the future, a future in which the West Indies will once more be a major, if not the dominant, force in world cricket. The one thing the plan recognises is that we need the support and active participation of all sectors of Caribbean society if we are to succeed in restoring the pride in our cricket.
Further to that, and in recognition that West Indies cricket is at the broadest level owned by the people of the region, we will keep the report on the website and disseminate it as widely as possible to ensure that all those who wish to comment have the opportunity to do so.
For those of you who find the time to review the Draft Plan, it is your document and should reflect your views about the future direction of West Indies Cricket.
The Strategic Plan of the WICB has been a work in progress for many years. At long last, building on previous attempts, this administration has produced a document that has a clear vision of the future, specific deliverables and measurable objectives to which we will be bound and for which we expect to be held accountable.
We look forward to your inputs as we move forward into the future conscious of the fact that unless you know where you are going, you will never know when you get there.
