Sizzling Simmons hits 53 before lunch
Bridgetown, Barbados – Lendl Simmons hit a stroke-filled half-century as West Indies A team reached 93 for two in the second innings of the first Digicel four-day ‘Test’ against India A in the morning session on Monday.
The right-hander, making a comeback to first-class cricket, made 53 with five fours and two sixes off just 66 balls as the home side went to lunch on the third day with an overall lead of 68 on second innings. He dominated an opening stand of 68 with the patient Kraigg Brathwaite, as the West Indies added 90 runs in the morning session.
Simmons launched a brutal attack on Rahul Sharma with a six over long-on, a cut for four and a straight six in the leg-spinner’s first over of the day. Simmons fell soon after trapped leg-before playing back to give fast bowler Shami Ahmed his first wicket. Soon afterward Sharma got another breakthrough as Donovan Pagon was also leg-before for a three-ball ‘duck’.
At lunch, Brathwaite was 23 not out off 90 balls, while Nkrumah Bonner was 14 not out. They have so far added 24 for the third wicket.
