New Zealand beat Zimbabwe by 10 wickets
Ahmedabad, India – New Zealand crushed Zimbabwe by 10 wickets on Friday to take a step closer to the quarter-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
Zimbabwe was dismissed for just 162 all out in a disappointing batting display, with just Brendan Taylor (44) and Prosper Utseya (36) showing any application at the Sardar Patel Stadium.
Fast bowler Tim Southee was the pick of the attack for New Zealand, with 3-29, while Kyle Mills collected two wickets on his return to the team and skipper Daniel Vettori also got two wickets – in his first over – to hurt the Zimbabwe cause.
In the second half of the match openers Martin Guptill (86 not out) and Brendon McCullum (76 not out) then showed great skill in guiding the Kiwis home to a vital wicket, coping with any threat posed by the Zimbabwe attack.
